must say the beta is already very impressive, they just need to fix the gun behavior and the little lag but apart from that everything seems fine, will be a cool game to play together online.
There will be no dedicated server for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, reports a new BASH webcast on BASHandSlash.com, where they converse with Infinity Ward community manager Rob Bowling about their concerns that PC platform is being marginalized for MW2 (thanks Steve). They learn the PC edition is still not delayed, and will include Steam support, but their concerns are only heightened by learning that there are no plans for a dedicated server for the game, as matchmaking on the PC will entirely go through IW.net. Robert did not have answers to questions about how this will impact custom map-making and modification efforts. The Infinity Ward Forums have a petition asking for dedicated server support and there's another Dedicated Servers for CoD-MW2 Petition on petitionsonline.com that currently boasts over 100,000 signatures.
the petition will only have a chance of working if they lose alot of sales because of this and i cant see that happening. alot of people who signed the petition are still going to buy the game anyway.
In my opinion not only the pc-players should speak out, also parts of the industry who are affected by this.
1) The people who sell/rent dedi's
2) Softwaremakers like xfire
3) PC (part) manufactors - Cuz Who needs new hardware every year if you are getting straight console ports.
Because if this is gonna be a hit, and im sure the number on the sales will say it is.
This could well be an end to pc gaming as we know it. No more dedicated servers, no more mods, no more user generated content, and thus with this they decrease the longevity of a game - and make sure the buyer will buy the next part next year.
I wouldnt be suprised if, IW.net and new maps will have to be paid for..
Ah well:
Positive thing:
We dont have to worry anymore about a server, since there wont be any dedicated server, we can keep our pledge of 7 euros in our pocket now..
But
What are we gonna do, are we buying the game anywayz cuz its Cod and give it a shot or..?
I am going to be buying the game purely for the singleplayer, if the multi is any good i will play it, if not its not a big loss to me. I dont see the point in complaining about it before the game is released as we dont know the extent of the changes and whether it is actualy a bad thing.
It just seems like a large quantity of people dont liekt eh fact that the game has been changed without caring for whether the change is a bad thing or if it would actualy affect the average gamer.
I forse most people being fine with the change because it makes finding games more userfriendly (so they claim) and that is what a majority of people would want. There is no reason to complain if the game hasnt actualy been made worse by the change so the best thing to do is wait for the game to be released and to see how good/bad IWnet and the matchmaking system are.
We are clanplayers....
We want to play this game competitively
We want to build a community around our own server
We want to play scrimms and wars on a server we can call home
Also infinity ward would be stupid to not try and please the many over the few. The simple fact is that if you dont like how the game seems then dont buy it, a change to a game series cannot please everyone and should be expected not to.
Well its already preordered for me. Did so a month ago.
Like cod5 even though i get the feeling its going to go tits up, im still interested to see what happens.
Also the allure of co-op is far too tempting to me.
Actually IW are being stupid not trying to please the few as the many. Competitive gaming has a massive massive effect on pc gaming. If it reaches LAN events, the game has made it, and will stay for a long time. Its a massive risk entering the pc gaming market with a game played mainly online, without catering for the Lan and tourney players.
For example. Quake series, hugely popular, still played. Counter strike series, Team fortress, unreal.
All games that the devs leave the game open for mod dev. And openly endorse competitive gaming. The reason? Look at someone like Fatal1ty. If he is seen playing a game at a tourn, then that game is picked up by alot of people.
Where IW will fail, is not on this games sales, it will sell well, but in its staying power. Valve can release another css, or tf2, it will sell incredibly, another quake or unreal also.
But if this mw2 doesnt cater for gaming a lans etc, it will die out slowly, and next game around, only a few casual gamers will buy it.
One more example of how LAN massivly promotes games. WoW.
IW Just gives the Competitive gaming community the big fuck you. The same community that made the whole series as big as it is. (1+2)
Just look @ cod4...what is played most: S&D
What mod is played most : Promod (developed by modders!)
Main reason why they do this is: money and because they simply can
COD:WAW sold more and better then Cod4. Take in account all the mappacks (3 in total) where the console gamers happily paid for, And you got yourself a big milking cow.
So why the hell would u want to bring out a game that could last 2-3 years. When u can bring out a new one every year + mappacks and people will still buy it.
Only time will tell,my guess is the COD series are probably gonna be milked out like EA did with MOH and die a slow and silent death for competitive gaming.
